Jangoo and Chase put West Indies in command

Amir Jangoo and captain Roston Chase put West Indies in a dominant position against Sri Lanka with a record-breaking 401-run sixth-wicket partnership at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Their stand helped the team reach a huge first-innings total of 626 for nine before Chase declared, leaving West Indies strongly placed going into the final stages of the Test.

In reply, Jayden Seales helped extend West Indies’ dominance by removing Pathum Nissanka early, leaving Sri Lanka under pressure after being set a massive target following a 318-run first-innings lead.

Amir Jangoo and captain Roston Chase produced a record-breaking 401-run sixth-wicket partnership, the highest in Test history for that wicket and the West Indies’ second-best overall.

Coming in with the team 37 runs behind Sri Lanka, the pair rebuilt the innings with Jangoo continuing from 78 and eventually reaching his maiden Test century in his third match.

Their partnership helped West Indies recover strongly and move into a dominant position in the Test.

Both men continued their dominant stand, taking West Indies to 356 for five at lunch and extending their control over Sri Lanka despite an undermanned bowling attack.

Chase went on to score his sixth Test century as the partnership passed 300, while West Indies reached 492 for five at tea, firmly in command of the match.

Jangoo went on to score a double century after reaching 200 with a single, celebrating a landmark innings in a dominant West Indies performance against Sri Lanka.

He later fell for 233 off 373 balls after a long, controlled innings lasting over nine and a half hours, which included 19 fours and three sixes, as West Indies moved to 569 for six.

Alzarri Joseph provided a quick late boost with 21 off 20 balls, including two sixes and a four, before being dismissed by Milan Rathnayake.

Captain Roston Chase then fell short of a double century, bowled for 194 after an eight-and-a-half-hour innings off 324 balls. West Indies were left in a strong position as a declaration approached.

Milan Rathnayake was Sri Lanka’s standout bowler, taking his first Test five-wicket haul (5-124) and helping trigger West Indies’ declaration by dismissing Kemar Roach for a duck.

Sri Lanka then suffered a shaky start, with Pathum Nissanka dismissed for three, while they were also fortunate not to lose Nishan Madushka earlier after a dropped chance.
