Taylor’s heroics earn West Indies women clean sweep of Ireland

Stafanie Taylor scored her second consecutive century with 105, helping the West Indies Women post 257 against Ireland Women.

The West Indies spinners, led by Afy Fletcher, Karishma Ramharack, and Hayley Matthews, then shared eight wickets between them to bowl Ireland out for 193 in 43.1 overs, securing a 64-run victory and a 3-0 ODI series sweep.

The West Indies Women completed a 3-0 ODI series sweep, their third consecutive bilateral ODI series win against Ireland. The only team change is with Ashmini Munisar replacing Shawnisha Hector.

Ireland sent the visitors in to bat and made an early breakthrough when Orla Prendergast dismissed Hayley Matthews for 7 before Taylor and Realeanna Grimmond added 34 runs for the second wicket.

The WI Women slipped to 48 for 4 after losing Shemaine Campbelle and Jannillea Glasgow to run-outs with just seven runs added to the score.

Deandra Dottin scored 21 before being dismissed, leaving the team at 82 for 5.

Taylor then steadied the innings with partnerships of 73 with Jahzara Claxton (30) and 50 with Aaliyah Alleyne (33), helping the West Indies recover.

After Alleyne was dismissed leaving the score at 205 for 7 in 40 overs, Taylor added 52 valuable runs with the lower order. She scored 105 from 113 balls, including 10 fours, reaching her 10th ODI century and earning Player of the Match before being run out on the final ball.

For Ireland, Orla Prendergast, Jane Maguire, and Georgina Dempsey each took two wickets.

Ireland got off to a rough start as they lost an early wicket but recovered through a 71-run partnership between captain Gaby Lewis and Amy Hunter, reaching 81 for 1.

Fletcher then dismissed Lewis for 50 and Hunter for 30 in quick succession, reducing Ireland to 86 for 3.

Ireland’s innings fell apart after Prendergast scored 8 and Rebecca Stokell was run out, leaving the team at 129 for 5 in the 28th over.

Leah Paul (32) and Louise Little (23) briefly resisted, but after Paul was dismissed, Ireland collapsed.
Fletcher and Ramharack each took 3 wickets, while Hayley Matthews claimed 2 wickets and was named Player of the Series.
