Richardson endorses Comptroller Scott Stringer for mayor

Brooklyn Assemblymember Diana C. Richardson (WFP, D-Brooklyn) on Friday announced that she was joining Assemblymember Nick Perry (D-Brooklyn) in endorsing New York City Comptroller, Scott M. Stringer for mayor of New York City.

In addition to their endorsements, they announced they will be part of a “Brooklyn for Stringer” coalition, together with State Senators Julia Salazar and Brian Kavanagh and Assemblymembers Robert Carroll and Maritza Davila, “that will organize voters throughout the borough.”

Richardson serves the 43rd Assembly District in Brooklyn, encompassing Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Wingate and East Flatbush.

Perry represents the 58th Assembly District in Brooklyn, including the neighborhoods of East Flatbush, Canarsie and Brownsville.

“New York City needs a mayor who leads by example and walks the walk,” Richardson said. “Scott Stringer doesn’t just talk about affordable housing; he fights for it and delivers.

“He doesn’t just tweet about criminal justice issues; he’s divested our pension dollars from the private prisons that fuel mass incarceration,” she added. “He doesn’t just theorize about the suffering COVID has wrought; he’s lived it, and he has a plan to build New York back stronger.

“That’s the tenacity Comptroller Stringer will bring to City Hall; and he’s the fighter New Yorkers need standing up for them,” Richardson continued. “With enthusiasm, I endorse Scott Stringer for mayor.”

Stringer described Richardson as “a champion in Albany for Brooklyn’s working families,” adding that he was “proud to have her support.

“Assemblymember Richardson has fought tirelessly to advance progressive solutions in the Legislature and is a passionate fighter for affordable housing, criminal justice reform and economic fairness,” he said.

“She led the charge to deliver a historic rent package, and she didn’t back down in the face of wealthy interests,” Stringer continued. “Diana Richardson is unafraid of the tough fights, and I’m grateful to partner with her to build a city for everyone.”

Richardson is the chair of the Legislative Commission on Government Administration, as well as a member of the New York State Assembly standing committees on Banks, Labor, Corporations, Authorities and Commissions, Mental Health, Small Business, Women’s Legislative Caucus, Task Force on Women’s Issues, and The Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus.
