ANOTHER GOLD

Grenada’s Olympian Kirani James reigned supreme, as the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series at the USATF Bermuda Games kicked off on Saturday.

James holds the men’s 400m medals from the last three Olympic Games, including a gold from 2012, and took bronze last summer.

On Saturday, he easily eclipsed an eight-man, a one-lap field that included Machel Cedenio of Trinidad and Tobago and 2018 US champion Kahmari Montgomery.

Kirani James, one of the lead contenders for the Olympic one-lap crown, according to Olympics.com, placed third and won bronze in the 400m final in the Tokyo Olympics, in August 2021, with a time of 44.19 seconds.

James earned gold at London 2012 and silver at Rio 2016.

World Athletic said Noah Lyles, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Grant Holloway and Shericka Jackson were also among the world’s best who travelled to the Flora Duffy Stadium in Devonshire, Bermuda, to compete last weekend.

Coming off a dominant performance at the World Indoor Championships where he won gold and tied his own world record in the 60m hurdles, Tokyo silver medalist Holloway opened his outdoor campaign in the 110m hurdles against Jamaica’s Olympic semifinalist Damion Thomas, the 2021 NCAA indoor champion, and Shane Brathwaite of Barbados, World Athletics said.
