WIADCA hosts annual Children’s Holiday Celebration & Toy Drive

The Brooklyn-based West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA), organizer of the annual massive carnival parade on Brooklyn’s Eastern Parkway, on Sunday hosted its annual Children’s Holiday Celebration & Toy Drive at its new home.

The new home is located at the Major R. Owens Health & Wellness Community Center — named in honor of the late congressman, who represented the then 11th Congressional District in Brooklyn — at 1561 Bedford Ave., Brooklyn.

WIADCA’s previous home was on Rogers Avenue in Brooklyn.

“It was a day filled with joy, celebration, face painting, craft making, games, toys, and a special Santa meet and greet,” said Nicholas Juzdan, WIADCA marketing consultant, disclosing that over 400 children from the community participated in the event.

“WIADCA is privileged and blessed to offer their programming year-round and especially during the holiday season to the most deserving members of their community,” he added.

“WIADCA could not have been able to provide these services without their community and corporate sponsors who have given their time, treasure and talent to the organization,” Juzdan continued.

WIADCA’s Guyanese-born President Michelle Gibbs emphasized the organization’s profound gratitude.

“We are so grateful to be able to offer so many resources year-round,” she told Caribbean Life. “This yearly tradition is one of my favorites.

“Seeing the faces of all the children truly puts meaning to the work we do here at WIADCA,” Gibbs added. “We could not have done it without our community and sponsors. WIADCA wishes everyone a Happy Holiday and Happy New Year!”
