WI Academy prep with High Performance Camp

A 14-man West Indies Academy squad will enter a High Performance Camp to begin preparation for the Regional Super50 Cup which bowls off in Trinidad and Tobago on Oct. 17.

The squad will be led by all-rounder Nyeem Young and include batsman Kimani Melius who captained West Indies Under-19s at the ICC Under-19 World Cup three years ago. The team also comprises of Ackeem Auguste, Joshua Bishop, Teddy Bishop, Carlon Bowen-Tuckett, McKenny Clarke, Matthew Forde, Leonardo Julien, Johann Layne, Matthew Nandu, Ashmead Nedd, Kelvin Pitman, and Kevin Wickham.Andre Coley, the Test and A-team head coach, will oversee the side’s preparation alongside assistant coach Rayon Griffith, for the week-long camp at Coolidge Cricket Ground.

“We are really looking forward to competing in this year’s edition of the CG United Super50 Cup,” Coley said.“The camp provides an excellent opportunity for us to prepare and focus on our white ball skills and certain match scenarios, as we build on the performances of the previous tournament and explore ways to execute the brand of cricket that we want to play as a West Indian team.”

West Indies Academy struggled in last year’s Super50 Cup, failing to make it out of the group stage.

The Super50 Cup runs from Oct.17 to Nov.11 where 31 matches will be played across three venues — Queen’s Park Oval, the Brian Lara Stadium and the UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre.
