West Indies players, staff to get salaries restored

West Indies players and staff may get their full remuneration packages come January 2021 after six months on half pay.

This was revealed by Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO, Johnny Grave who said he was hoping that full funding and salary payments can resume as early as January 2021.

During an interview with a T&T newspaper Grave said he is hoping that everyone will be on full pay and funding from January onwards.

Earlier this year, CWI announced a 50 percent salary cut due to funding across the entire regional cricket system, effective from July due to the financial crunch caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

CWI, like many other international sporting organizations around the world, is facing significant loss of income with no international cricket being played until recently.

CWI had stated then that these temporary measures will only be in place for not more than three to six months.

However, West Indies was the first team to resume international cricket with their tour of England in June followed by the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and then the recently concluded tour of New Zealand.

The team will have its third international tour during the pandemic in early January when players travel to Bangladesh.
