Walcott cops silver at FBK Games

Former Olympic javelin champion Keshorn Walcott copped silver in the event at the FBK Games recently at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Stadium in Hengelo, Holland.

Walcott threw a season’s best of (SB) 83.56 metres to place second behind German Julian Weber with 87.14m and ahead of Finland’s Oliver Helander with a season-best of 80.50m at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet.

Walcott, who has a personal best of 90.16m, could have placed second with his first and third efforts, tossing the spear at 83.35m and 81.52m, respectively. The Trinidad and Tobago javelin thrower sat out the fourth and fifth rounds before retiring in the sixth and final round.

Filling the remaining spots were Lassi Etelatalo of Finland in  fourth with a season-best of 79.93m, Timothy Herman of Belgium, who entered with a personal best of 87.35m recently in Nairobi as fifth, Patrick Gailum with 78.09m was sixth, Portuguese Leander Ramos with 76.21 was seventh and Germany’s Johannes Vetter with 72.85 was eighth.

T&T sprinter Michelle-Lee Ahye also made an appearance at the two-day meet in the women’s 100 metres and placed eight. Ahye clocked a season’s best of 11.35 seconds in the dash, which featured nine runners.

Daryll Neita of Great Britain sped to victory in 11.05, with Egypt’s Bassant Hemida in second with 11.16 and Brazilian Victoria Christina Rosa in third with 11.18.

The others were American Cambrea Sturgis was fourth with 11.20, N’Keta Seedo of the Netherlands with 11.22  was fifth, Ivory Coast’s Maboundou Kone was sixth with 11.30, Belgium’s Delphine Nkansa was seventh with 11.32 and USA’s Teahna Daniels was ninth with 11.57.
