Visually-impaired reggae singer makes waves on three-state tour
Visually-impaired, Jamaican-born reggae singer Nigy Boy last weekend racked up a few thousand frequent flier miles, delivering stellar performances in three different states as part of his Continent US Tour.
Anthony Turner, the New York-based, Jamaican-born entertainment publicist, told Caribbean Life on Monday that Nigy Boy performed to a sold-out crowd Friday night at the Prestige Lounge in Farmingdale, Long Is.
“Next, it was off to Club Eclipse in New Jersey for another spirited performance on Saturday before he was whisked away to South Florida on Sunday morning for a standing-room-only performance at a Superbowl ‘Rise & Toast’ halftime party in Miami,” said Turner, disclosing that Jamaican Olympic Champion Usain “Lightning” Bolt was one of the celebrity guests at the event.
While stating that he is not a big football fan, Nigy said that he, however, had predicted that popstar Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelcer, and his Chiefs would win back-to-back championships.
Turner said Nigy Boy heads to Jamaica next for two performances and a “Welcome Home” reception that will be held in his honor at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.
It will be Nigy Boy’s first trip back home since his new single, “Continent,” racked up 5.3-odd million views on YouTube.
“Returning home, the number one trending Dancehall artist is definitely an indescribable feeling,” Nigy Boy told Caribbean Life. “I would’ve never dreamed something like this would be taking place in such a short space of time.
“Consistency and patience lead to great rewards, and I’m just reaping the blessings right now and being thankful as they fall on me,” he added.
Award-winning producer Rvssian – who has churned out hits for Travis Scott, Post Malone, Cardi B, 21 Savage, Davido, Byron Messia, Shenseea, Vybz Kartel, Sean Paul and Charly Black – raved about adding Nigy Boy to his popular “Dutty Money” riddim.
“From when I first heard his (Nigy Boy) preview on Instagram, I knew it would be special,” the GRAMMY-winning platinum producer said. “We made history together.”
While in Jamaica, Nigy Boy will visit his alma mater, the Salvation Army School for the Blind & Visually Impaired, where he expects to meet with administrators and hosts a pep talk with students.
He will also make a cash donation to the institution, Nigy Boy said.
“It’s a humbling but exciting feeling to be returning to the Salvation Army School for the Blind, an institution that molded me into the man I am today,” he said. “It has always been a dream of mine to represent the Salvation Army School for the Blind to the best of my ability in some capacity, and it just so happens that I’m doing it through music.
“I want the next generation of children at this institution to know that success doesn’t come overnight, but it is attainable,” Nigy Boy added. “As long as they put in the work, they can achieve their goals.”
