Two WI senior batsmen retire from international cricket

Two of West Indies senior batsmen former wicketkeeper/batsman, Denesh Ramdin and top-order batsman, Lendl Simmons called it a day after a 16-year international cricket for the West Indies.

Both Ramdin and Simmons made the announcement last week about their retirement.

Ramdin, 37, of Trinidad and Tobago, who last played Test cricket for the West Indies against Australia in January 2016, made his debut against Sri Lanka in July 2005. In 74 Tests, he scored 2.898 runs that included four centuries and 15 half centuries, at an average of 25.87. He took 205 catches and 12 stumpings in his Test career.

He played 139 ODIs for West Indies scoring 2,200 runs with two centuries and eight half centuries. He also completed181 catches and seven stumpings.

Ramdin also played 71 T20I in which he scored 636 runs in those innings, took 43 catches and pulled off 20 stumpings.

Meanwhile, Simmons of Trinidad and Tobago also announced his retirement after making his  debut in 2006.

He played 144 matches scoring 3,763 runs in all formats.

Altogether, Simmons played eight Tests for the West Indies, along with 68 ODIs and T20s respectively.

Simmons played a key role in West Indies’ triumph during the 2016 T20 World Cup. He last represented West Indies during the 2021 World Cup T20 World Cup, struggling to 16 off 35 balls as the team lost to South Africa.
