“My dad is well-known in our community for his cooking skills,” says Danny Persaud. “Whenever there’s a wedding, religious function, or party, my dad is the one people call to cook. His passion and heart in cooking inspired me to bring his back-home, Guyanese-style cuisine to the heart of Little Guyana.”

Mr. Persaud noted that at Tropical Isle Roti Shop, customer satisfaction is not just a goal; it’s a commitment. This innovative restaurant continually strives to enhance the dining experience, recognizing the needs of its diverse clientele.

They have initiated nationwide shipping of their food items, a decision that has brought joy to Guyanese residents in even the most remote states. It allows them to savor the flavors of home. In areas where West Indian cuisine is scarce, this service ensures everyone can enjoy a taste of nostalgia.

This dedication to customer satisfaction makes Tropical Isle Roti Shop a valued and essential part of the community.

Despite the thriving food scene in Little Guyana, which boasts many exceptional restaurants, Persaud is thrilled to be part of New York City’s diverse culinary landscape.

More than just a dining destination, Tropical Isle Roti Shop is a vibrant hub for community engagement. Persaud takes pride in hosting pop-ups that feature local celebrities, chefs, and food influencers, creating a bridge between the community and the media. A notable event in 2023 was the successful pop-up featuring Salmah Hack, a finalist on the PBS cooking show “The Great American Recipe,” and International Chef Devan Rajkumar, who resides in Canada. These events testify to the restaurant’s commitment to fostering community connections and engaging with residents, making it a must-visit for those seeking diverse cultural experiences.
