West Indies suffered another massive defeat to Sri Lanka, losing by 164 runs in the second and final Test match at Galle International Stadium, to give the hosts a clean sweep of the series.
West Indies took a first innings lead of 49 runs after dismissing Sri Lanka for 204 and making 253. However, Sri Lanka set the West Indies a target of 297 on the final day and the visitors were dismissed for 132, to lose the series 2-0.
Sri Lanka won the first Test by 187 runs and the series sweep of West Indies gave them all 12 of the World Test Championship points that were on offer for the series.
Sri Lanka spinners dominated the series as they were in the first match and caused the undoing of the regional team’s batsmen, with Ramesh Mendis and Lasith Embuldeniya picking up five wickets each in the final Test.
Their combined efforts saw West Indies losing their last eight wickets in the space of 13 overs.
Mendis completed his second five-wicket haul of the match when Veerasammy Permaul, who got just one run on the board, was out lbw.
