Search on for new talent

West Indies Women’s Head Selector, Ann Browne-John said the search for young talent to give fresh life to the senior tam program has started.

The West Indies were again outplayed in the three of the five matches against England of their current T20 series.

The West Indies women went down by 47 runs in their first match at the County Ground in Derby a week ago. It was the same margin of defeat that Stafanie Taylor suffered in the first game of the five-match rubber last Monday. In the third game the West Indies Women lost by 20 runs.

Speaking on the Mason and Guest cricket talk show in Barbados last week, Browne-John said the search was on for younger talent.

“One of the areas we had looked very seriously at was our youth tournaments, our Under-19 tournaments because we have a number of players who have been playing for a while,” she said, adding that “some of them have started to go out of the team and we have to find the next group of players coming up.”

The head selector noted, however, that “we hope going forward we will be able to unearth talent because like this team that has come, we have one new player into the team, who is Kaysia Shulz, a left-arm orthodox bowler from Guyana.

She also made a call for the number of coaches used for this series to be maintained in the future.
