Paintings In The Garden III, cultural fundraiser come to eclectic Red Hook

Prominent Trinidadian Artist Alicia Aberdeen-Jones says that the third installment of her annual art show and fundraiser, “Paintings in The Garden III — Rhythm & Harmony in Color, Media and Culture,” will continue in eclectic Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Aberdeen-Jones told Caribbean Life on Sunday that the recent show and fundraiser, on Oct. 23, in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn was so successful that she decided to bring the production to Red Hook, starting on Nov. 27 and running until Dec. 18.

“The production was of such cultural importance and was so well received that it will continue as a pop-up exhibit from Nov. 27, 2021 to Dec. 18, 2021 at the Peninsula Art Space, located at 352 Van Brunt St., corner of Sullivan Street, Brooklyn,” she said.

In collaboration with internationally-renowned calypsonian, David Rudder, Aberdeen-Jones said the show is donating computers to the computer lab of Rudder’s alma mater, St. Francis Boys’ College, formerly Belmont Boys’ RC Secondary School, in Trinidad and Tobago.

“Thus far, with proceeds from the door as well as direct donations from T&T’s 1964 Tokyo Olympic medalists, Mr. Edwin Roberts and Mr. Kent Bernard, we are able to purchase two fully-loaded laptops for the school,” Aberdeen-Jones said. “The goal is at least four. As such, the cause will continue in tandem with the exhibit at the Peninsula.

“Every piece that sells, while on display there, will give 5 percent to the cause,” she added. “The David Rudder portrait in 24Kt. gold will contribute 15 percent of its sale price to the cause.”

Aberdeen-Jones gave special thanks to Ali’s Roti Shop in Brooklyn for its “outstanding food and service to the cause.

“Their unexpected generosity enabled us to feed a nearby shelter on the evening of Oct. 23,” she said.
