One Brooklyn Health celebrates Patient Experience Week

One Brooklyn Health (OBH) says it is proud to celebrate Patient Experience Week from April 24-26, hosting several events at OBH locations throughout the community.

OBH said it was established to preserve and enhance health care services in the communities of Central Brooklyn. and is composed of three hospitals and their affiliated facilities — Interfaith Medical Center (IMC), Brookdale Hospital Medical Center (BHMC) and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center (KJMC).

All three hospitals have had historic ties in the communities they serve, and are working together to build a system that will enable OBH to provide the highest quality and widest breadth of healthcare services to those in need.

OBH has an extensive network of primary, behavioral health and specialty care locations spread throughout Central and East Brooklyn.

OBH said on Monday that it provides OBH patients and community the opportunity to engage with members of the Patient Experience team, as they provide patient education, information on special services, and discuss the importance of shared decision-making and patient surveys.

National Patient Experience Week is an opportunity for health care organizations to focus on patient engagement and communication.

OBH said patients are put first, with a central focus on patient-centered care.

“Focusing on patient experience is important because treating people with respect, and being kind promotes an environment for healing and builds trust between patients and health care providers,” Nicole Francois, OBH chief patient experience officer, told Caribbean Life.

She said the celebratory week at OBH includes “recognizing the dedication and commitment of staff members while allowing patients and their families to participate in events and engage with staff.”

This year, OBH will host three engagement events at its hospital facilities, providing a variety of give aways and literature.

Locations, dates and times are as follows: April 24 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m. OBH Interfaith Medical Center: 1545 Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn, NY | Lobby; April 25 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m. OBH Brookdale Medical Center: 1 Brookdale Plaza Brooklyn, NY | Lobby; and April 26 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m. OBH Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center: 585 Schenectady Ave., Brooklyn, NY | Lobby.

“Having the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life is important.  Knowing you made a difference in someone’s life should be considered time well spent,” Francois said.

“Helping someone in their time of need is priceless,” she added. “Providing great patient experience gives you the opportunity to make a difference when someone needed you the most.”

OBN said it partners with a number of Brooklyn-based Federally Qualified Health centers and pharmacies to reach the greatest number of Brooklyn residents.

“At the various locations, patients and their families can obtain a broad range of healthcare services, such as pediatric and geriatric care, behavioral health, sickle cell services, podiatry, and maternal health services to name a few,” it said.

In addition, OBH has two large nursing homes within its system, Schulman S. Schachne Institute for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Brookdale and Rutland Nursing Home at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.

OBH also has senior citizen housing for residents who can live independently or who require an assisted living program at its Arlene and David Schlang Pavilion at Brookdale.
