Nine West Indies players tested positive for COVID-19 in Pakistan

Cricket West Indies (CWI) was forced to postpone the three-match One Day International series in Pakistan after a further five persons — wicketkeeper/batsman Shai Hope, left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein, allrounder Justin Greaves along with assistant coach Roddy Estwick, and team physician Dr Akshai Mansingh — tested positive for COVID-19 in the latest round of testing carried out by the Pakistan Cricket Board last week.

This was in addition to the three players- fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell, allrounder Roston Chase and Kyle Mayers was tested positive for Covid-19 upon arrival in Pakistan on December 9. They had been ruled out of the recently concluded T20 series and went into quarantine for the next ten days.

In commenting on the ODI series, CWI and the Pakistan Cricket Board in a joint statement said it has been agreed that the series, which forms part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, will be postponed and rescheduled for early June 2022.

Although three players were tested for covid the T20 series went on as scheduled, which the regional team lost.
