New water park to help Lake Mainstay Resort, Guyana rebound after covid

Lake Mainstay Resort, a hidden gem in Guyana’s Essequibo County will add a brand-new water park to boost its already exciting tourism package as it makes a full return after a two-year shutdown due to COVID-19.

This amazing getaway in the Pomeroon-Supenaam Region, near the Atlantic coast, northwest of the waterway, is an hour and a half ferry, or quick speedboat ride where some of the world’s stunning sunrises and sunsets are experienced, and the country’s 365 Islands are located.

From Supenaam, tourists take a short taxi ride to the Amerindian reservation of Mainstay/Whyaka Village approximately four miles from the main thoroughfare, in the town of Anna Regina, where tourists are welcome to a lush paradise.

The charming nature resort is the perfect place for couples, families or larger groups for Conferences and Weddings, in a setting of radiant flora, and a 0.5-mile stretch of white sandy beach at the edge of the tea-color lake.

In addition to breathtaking views, a festive array of fruit trees, and clean air, there is an enthralling stillness, that calm the senses.

Lake Mainstay also beckons travelers to its 32 cabins and eight single rooms, surrounded by lush vegetation, and flowering plants, where the tagline, says – striking destination, Love nature, study nature, stay close to nature, it will never fail you.

All cabins and rooms are air-conditioned with Wi-Fi accessibility and outfitted with 110 and 220 electrical voltage options. Check-in time is 7:30 a.m., and check-out 3:00 p.m.

Marketing Manager Roy Moore during an exclusive interview with Caribbean Life, pointed out the attractive amenities the 15-acre tourist destination provides, noting that the million-dollar water park upgrade aims to attract returning customers, as well as new tourists from around the world.

“The water park will be an added attraction to the inviting resort that already has a lot of tourists arriving every week. We still hope to be more competitive, as we look also at increasing our marketing drive through an online portal,” said Moore.

“We have partnered with international booking agencies for holiday stays to be seamless. Right now, we’re on track to becoming the best tourist spot in the country,” said Moore.

The tourist attraction offers an array of enjoyment for a minimal entrance fee of GUY$7.00, as such the tropical spot has saw a spike over the recent Easter season, with all cabins being sold out during that period, he shared.

According to Moore, the resort has had its shares of woes, but has withstand the test of time, since it was launched in 1985. After a change of government in 2016, and a decline in business, the retreat struggled, later finding its footing after a robust marketing strategy, reopening in 1997, then came the pandemic.

He noted that Lake Mainstay is a different experience from other tourist attractions, because of its relaxing atmosphere, with a trademark of cleanliness and delectable cuisine, adding that Lake Mainstay is affordable, to all tourists.
