NEW GROUP LEADER

Three games were on the docket on Monday in League C of the Road To W Gold Cup, with Curacao downing Anguilla in Group D and both Aruba and Belize winning in Group A, according to CONCACAF.

Curacao vs. Anguilla

CONCACAF said on Tuesday that Curacao is the new leader of Group D after downing Anguilla 5-2 at the Stadion Rignaal Jean Francisca in Willemstad, Curacao.

Curacao now has six points after two games, while Anguilla is on four points through three matches.

“Curacao enjoyed a great start with three goals inside the first 20 minutes, beginning with Kadisha Martina in the 5’ thanks to a great touch for a 1-0 lead,” CONCACAF said. “It was 2-0 in the 12’ with Taisha Hansen converting a penalty after a foul in the Anguilla area.

“Four minutes later in the 16’ the scoreboard read 3-0 with Hansen finding the slashing Sadeyah Rosa, who hammered into net from a yard out,” it added. “Anguilla pulled a goal back, 3-1, in the 30’ as Adriana Connor punched in a shot from inside the area.

“But back came Curacao in the second half with Lauryn Richardson making it 4-1 on the hour mark with a penalty conversion,” CONCACAF continued. “Two minutes later in the 62’ Hansen scored her second of the night for a 5-1 advantage when her shot trickled in past Anguilla GK Esther Ward.”

CONCACAF said Anguilla would get one last goal in the 89’ through Camile Gumbs, whose corner kick ended up rolling off the fingertips of Curacao GK Julainy Fanijten and into goal to round out the 5-2 final scoreline.

Aruba vs. Bonaire

Aruba avenged their 3-1 defeat to Bonaire in Group A from last Thursday with a 5-0 victory at home at the Complejo Deportivo Guillermo Prospero Trinidad in Oranjestad, CONCACAF said.

It said Aisse Gumbs opened the scoring in the 30’ by taking a pass from Bonny Lammers and finishing for a 1-0 lead.

CONCACAF said Tarianna Doornkamp then doubled the lead to 2-0 right before halftime with a strong right-footed finish.

It said Vanessa Susanna stretched the advantage to 3-0 in the 63’ thanks in part to a nice pass from Lammers, who then scored a goal of her own in the 86’ to make it 4-0 when she ran onto a long ball from Aruba GK Hadassah Kock.

Susanna then capped the 5-0 festivities in the 90+4’ when she turned in a rebound off a Lammers shot, according to CONCACAF.

Belize vs. Turks and Caicos Islands

Belize stayed atop Group A with their fourth win in four games after topping Turks and Caicos Islands 3-0 at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, Belize, CONCACAF said.

It said Belize broke the deadlock in the 44’ and did so in style, as a free kick from Mikhaila Bowden was played on the ground to Kaite Jones, who then flipped the ball to herself and hit an overhead kick into net for a 1-0 Belize lead.

“Momentum was on Belize’s side and they doubled the margin to 2-0 in the 48’ on a right-footed finish from Khalydia Velasquez,” CONCACAF said.

It said Jones got her second of the night in the 52’ with a header off a corner kick for a 3-0 lead.

CONCACAF said Turks and Caicos Islands’ comeback task got a lot tougher in the 56’ when Pekiera Brooks was issued her second yellow card of the night, leaving the visitors with 10 players the rest of the way.

“Belize were unable to add a fourth score, but it was still another victorious night as they saw things out to collect the three points,” CONCACAF said.
