MUSICAL JOURNEY

West Indies cricket superstar, Chris Gayle, regarded as one of the greatest batsmen to ever play Twenty20 cricket, has ventured into music through his Triple Century Records label.

Jamaican-born Gayle, also known as “The Universe Boss,” has teamed with Contractor Music Group from Jamaica for an opportunity to appear on the Billboard-charting compilation album series “Tropical House Cruises to Jamaica – The Asian Edition,” which will be released by month’s end.

The album is packed with superstars, including multiple GRAMMY-Award winning singer Lauryn Hill, Jason Derulo, Morgan Heritage, Capleton, American rapper Redman, as well as new acts Kali Ranks, King Tiger and Lady Marga Mc.

“This project, which fuses hip hop, reggae, dancehall and afrobeat, was designed for the Asian countries of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Malaysia,” Anthony “Contractor” Edwards told Caribbean Life.

“After doing research, we saw that Chris Gayle was a giant brand in that region, so we decided to partner with his Triple Century Records with this album series, which has already had Billboard success in the states,” he added. “We expect to repeat and strengthen our market in the USA and open new markets in Asia.”

Gayle – the leading run scorer for the West Indies in both ODIs and T20Is, and the only player to score triple hundred in Tests, double hundred in ODIs and T20Is – will be featured on the album, alongside singer Shav-A on a pop-reggae track titled “Gimmi Your Love”.

Gayle said he was excited to be included on the Billboard album project.

“It’s a great feeling and great achievement for someone who has just been in the music business for over two years now,” he said. “To be on a project like this will only do justice to me and my label Triple Century Records. My music will be on the global platform. That’s where I want to be heard.”

Gayle has amassed over 54 million views for a single he recorded with Indian rapper Emiway Bantai on YouYube called “From India to Jamaica.”
