Music Hall of Fame Induction highlights Vincy Night Labor Day Saturday

Vincentian Elmo “the Magic” Christian, considered New York’s number one promoter during the early 70’s and 80’s, and beyond, continues his tradition of bringing the finest in entertainment to New York audiences with this year’s Vincy Night Extravaganza.

Christian has enhanced the event with the introduction of the inaugural Vincy Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

The ceremony will take place on Labor Day Saturday night, Sept. 2, during the annual Vincy Night Extravaganza in Brooklyn.

Christian said this year’s Vincy Night affair – which traditionally showcases Vincy calypso and soca artists, “during a night of elegant dancing on the Labor Day Saturday night, will be from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. at K&L Manor, 4501 Glenwood Road, at East 45th Street in Brooklyn.

Christian said Vincy Night 2023 will feature the band Touch, direct from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and popular artists, such as Skinny Fabulous; Delroy “Fireman” Hooper, the 2023 Soca and Road March Monarch in Vincy Mas; and Kemmy Christopher, the 2033 Vincy Mas Road March Monarch.

“The night of festive dancing and enjoyment will be highlighted by the Vincy Music Hall of Fame induction of the band Touch, winners of multiple road marches, which was part of the initial Vincy Night event 35 years ago, and legendary artist, Winston Soso, the man who gave us ‘I Doh Mind’, ‘Pan Yard’, and other memorable Soca hits,” Christian said.

“The Hon. Consul General of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Rondy ‘Luta’ McIntosh, will conduct the induction ceremony,” he added.

Christian said he is “excited” to add the Vincy Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony to the Vincy Night Extravaganza.

He said artistes become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first recording.

The criteria in which inductees will be judged include their influence, significance, and contribution in the music industry, said Christian, a veteran promoter who reportedly put the New York Club scene on the map.

He promoted events in more than 10 countries, and hosted shows and parties with artistes such as James Brown, Nancy Wilson, Ray Charles, The Manhattans, The O’Jays and Percy Sledge in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Christian said he was also the first promoter to introduce a Caribbean Music Awards event in New York, with the 1989 Vincy Music Awards.

He previously produced and promoted Vincy talent, including Becket, Poosah and Winston Soso, along with bands Blacksand, Touch and New Direction.

Christian said fans can join the Vincy Music Hall of Fame Facebook and Instagram group pages to become a member and enjoy its privileges.
