Mia Taylor drops ‘Mango’

Trinidadian American Mia Taylor is a young Brooklyn artist whose artistry and niche stretches far beyond the five boroughs.

With a mix of R&B and Caribbean-fused vibes, Taylor is channeling her Trinidadian side and her love for the culture with modern day R&B.

Her love for the music and Trinidadian culture stemmed from her grandfather, who was a renowned steelpan player in Trinidad and Tobago.

Most recently, Taylor dropped her single, “Mango,” ahead of her album, expected to be released later this summer, which was also featured on National Public Radio (NPR)

Taylor told Caribbean Life that the record was inspired by a toxic “situationship” that she “didn’t know how to walk away from” until finally realizing her “self-worth.”

“’Mango’ is meant to inspire women to prioritize themselves when a situation no longer serves them,” said Taylor, with wordplay on “mango” (let that man go).

She said the record, sang with flawless vocals and an island tempo, is meant to “uplift women.”

Drawing musical inspiration from Rihanna, Solange, Kes, Destra, Lauryn Hill and Tems, Taylor hopes to “inspire all singers and songwriters out there to stay true to their style and passions.”

Taylor said she has been inseparable from music since beginning her journey at 14.

She said she hopes to “continue to spread peace and light” whenever she goes.

A city girl, with all the island vibes, Taylor is making a name for herself as a budding independent artist.
