Jennifer Viechweg-Horsford, a woman of substance, champion of the environment, Caribbean Life Impact Award nominee

Congratulations! to Grenadian-born Jennifer Viechweg-Horsford, who has been at the forefront of keeping the environment sound as a founding member of Cycles of Residence Canarsie Street Team, organizing clean-ups, planting and other beautification projects over the last few years, efforts well deserving of the Caribbean Life Impact Award.

The Awards Gala will be held on March 20, at Terrace on the Park, 52-11 111th Street, Queens, at 6 p.m.

Horsford, who joins forces yearly in the NYC Love My Parks Clean up and the NYC Tulip Marathon, as a member of the Parks Department Stewardship Team, which cares for NYC Street Team and has allowed over 1000 NYU Freshmen to complete their Volunteer Services Orientation, is a champion community advocate.

She is a former public servant with the government of Grenada, where she held positions as high school teacher/athletic director, guidance counsellor, and social worker, and has carried out assignments as a protocol officer with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CARICOM Heads of Government meetings and Ministry of Youth.

During her tenure as senior public servant and youth ambassador, she undertook numerous high-level delegations, representing her home country in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, North America and throughout the Caribbean.

Horsford, who believes in the power of education, and personal advancement brought the same energy and enthusiasm to Cameron University, Lawton, Oklahoma, where she obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

While in Oklahoma, she was a founding member of the Students of the Caribbean Alliance and worked as a graduate research assistant for the BancFirst Cameron University Portfolio.

Within her first year at Cameron, she received an award from the president of the University and the Oklahoma State Legislature for Academic Excellence.

A Brooklyn resident for more than 15 years, Horsford continues to use her many talents and skills as a constituent and community coordinator, attached to the Office of State Senator Roxanne J. Persaud where she contributes to the development of the district, becoming the lead for the formation of the Rockaway Parkway Merchants Corridor Association Inc.

Also, a graduate of the NYPD Citizen Police Academy, which she attended to better understand, assist, and educate the constituents of her community, Horsford, since 2010, has been a member of Holy Family Church, in Canarsie, where she has served as the Coordinator of Youth Group and on many committees.

An extraordinarily empowering woman, Horsford has served on many local boards and was the public relations officer of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Program. She procured International Gold Award Training in Indonesia, where she gained leadership and problem-solving skills that she has shared over the years, helping hundreds of young people to achieve their goals. She remains a proud member of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Community.

Horsford who served as speaker at a benefit gala during the Royal Visit of the Earl of Wessex, where over half a million dollars were raised for the implementation of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Program, in New York, went on to serve in the capacity of program leadership at Medgar Evers Preparatory High School, and assisted with implementing the Let’s Move, Lady Michelle Obama’s Lets Move initiative.

The once peer advisor and facilitator to new Leaders/Organizers across 25 states, Horsford was the lead organizer in Oxfam America Action Corps NYC and assisted the organization in becoming independent at the end of its term with Oxfam America.

She was also the liaison for the Oxfam Action Corps Student Group for the United Nations International School. To date, the Action Corps is one of the strongest, grassroots organizations that addresses injustice and poverty.

A devoted mother of her only child Nicholas, and a devoted wife to husband Clint, Horsford whose principles are to remain happy, motivated, and focused, was honored by Action Corps for her strategic leadership and kindness. She is a proud member of the Grenada Ex-Teachers Association, and currently serves as the protocol officer for the Grenada Cultural Festival Group NYC.
