History beckons for Haiti in WWC Playoff final vs. Chile

Haiti had several days to rest, reset and plan their next game against Chile after their commanding win over Senegal on Saturday, according to CONCACAF.

It said on Monday that, on Wednesday, the North Harbour Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand will witness who is going to be the next National Team that joins the participants of this summer’s Women’s World Cup (WWC) in Australia/New Zealand.

CONCACAF said there are just three matches left to know what teams will be joining the already qualified nations that will compete to lift the most prestigious trophy in women’s football (soccer).

“The first ticket will be given out either to Chile, who is looking to qualify to their second ever WWC, or Haiti, who is writing history and is looking to be in their first major international tournament,” CONCACAF said.

It said La Roja arrived in New Zealand after their participation in the CONMEBOL Copa America Femenina, in which they ended up in fifth place, earning the right to participate in these Playoffs.

“Thanks to their FIFA ranking, sitting in 38th place, they were seeded before the tournament, and have been waiting for their opponent,” CONCACAF said. “It said Chile has a lot of players to watch, especially in the defensive area.

“Haiti’s offense will have to get past 2021 FIFA The Best Goalkeeper, European and French Champion Captain Christiane Endler, who has led her team to these final instances,” it added. “Maria Jose ‘Cote’ Rojas and Francisca Lara are also players that will be taking the pitch to help their country advance.

“Haiti had several days to rest, reset and plan their next game against Chile after their commanding 4-0 win over Senegal on Saturday,” CONCACAF continued. “With goals from Kethna Louis, Nerilia Mondesir and a double from Roselord Borgella, Les Grenadieres secured another match, ready to keep playing for history.”

It said fans from all over the world will be watching to see how Haiti keeps breaking barriers regarding women’s football.

“After their great participation at the 2022 CONCACAF Women’s Championship and their first game in New Zealand, there will be many expectations to see if they can pull off World Cup qualification,” CONCACAF said.

“It is all or nothing to play for these National Teams in the next match of the 2023 Playoffs,  with a precious ticket to the World Cup on the line,” it added.
