Legendary poet Maya Angelou described mothers as enduring, nurturing forces of nature — a “cradle to hold me” and a “hurricane in its perfect power.” In her tributes, particularly to her own mother, Vivian Baxter, she celebrated the enduring, unconditional love that heals and guides, describing it as “the fragrance of life itself” and a lasting “map you follow.”
Matriarchs will experience the same everlasting love and kindness when they celebrate Mother’s Day on May 10, 2026, with several special events in New York City to honor them.
Canarsie Library, 1370 Rockaway Parkway, Brooklyn, presents Kids Create Mother’s Day on May 5 from 3:30  p.m. – 4 p.m. Decorate a gift for Mom during the celebration.
Legendary Reggae singer Beres Hammond will highlight a concert at the UBS Arena, 2400 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont, on May 6.
The East Flatbush Library, 9612 Church Ave., Brooklyn, will host a Heart to Heart – A Mother’s Celebration on Thursday, May 7, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The gathering will celebrate Motherhood! – an evening of friendship, encouragement, and support, full of engaging activities including painting, fiber crafting, and much more! A special gift will be presented to mothers towards the end of the evening (while supplies last).
Mothers will enjoy a special Mother’s Day outing in the park, with music, flowers, and more. This will be a day for the whole family to enjoy! The park event will take place on Saturday, May 9, from 11 a.m. – 11 a.m., in Pelham Bay Nature Center, Bronx. This event is free.
A Mommy & Me paint event will be held on Saturday, May 9, at the Game Room (in Hamilton Fish Recreation Center, Manhattan) from 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. This event is free.
Join Mom’s Day Out- Latin Lunch, being hosted by Dallas BBQ 89-14 Parson Blvd., Jamaica, on May 9 and May 24 from 13:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

A Mother’s Day extravaganza will be held on May 9 from 10;00pm at the Caribbean Breeze Banquet Hall, 276 Belmont Avenue Brooklyn. Dress code- Elegant. Log on for tickets and more information.
Brooklyn.org, City Point, Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, Stardust Fund, and Brooklyn Bridge Parents will unite the community, leading cultural organizations, and nonprofits for the third annual free “Show Brooklyn Some Love Fest” at City Point and Albee Square, on May 9, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
There will be a free Mother’s Day Flower Bar (make a custom bouquet for mom) at the Brooklyn Museum on Wheels, a bead bar, an African dance workshop & drumming, a DJ, and more kids’ activities. This event will take place both indoors and outdoors.

Sunday, May 10, will bring mothers together for a Mother Nature Hike and Clean-Up. This will be held from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. in the Pelham Bay Nature Center (in Pelham Bay Park), Bronx. The rangers will teach attendees about local flora and fauna and cleaning up the trails along the way. A free event.
Guyanese-owned Blue Fin Restaurant & Caribbean CEO Kitchen will offer a delicious cuisine – Celebrate the Queen of Your Heart – at its 428 South 5th St., Brooklyn.
The two-hour maximum-per-table event will feature a three-course meal, including Pepperpot, Curry Chicken, Grilled Salmon, Garlic Butter Shrimp, Mini Crab Cake, and more. Included will be Sides, Dessert, and unlimited Mimosas, Bellinis, Coffee, and Tea. Brunch starts at noon. Price $65.00.

Also on Sunday, May 10, join a Mother’s Day basic Canoeing at the Audubon Center at the Boathouse (in Prospect Park), Brooklyn from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Trained Urban Park Rangers will lead attendees on canoe adventures that range from the gentle waters of protected lakes to the challenging open waters of rivers and bays. Ages 8 and up. A free event.
I Love K-Pop Mother’s Day Skate will take place on May 10, at 150 Furman St., Pier 2, Brooklyn, from noon – 3 p.m.
The Drift BK Lounge will host a Brunch/Dinner at 4315 Farragut Rd., Brooklyn on May 10. The elegant brunch will be hosted at noon and dinner (6 p.m.).
Brunch with unlimited mimosas is being offered at Oasis NYC, 550 Remsen Ave., Brooklyn, on May 10.
