Haitian American Alliance of NY: 30 years of service and triumph

The Haitian American Alliance of New York, Inc. (HAA) will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a weekend of community-focused events on Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, 2026, highlighting its ongoing mission to empower Haitian Americans across New York.
Founded in 1996, HAA has built a remarkable legacy of advocacy, education, health, and civic engagement. For 30 years, it has proudly empowered Haitian Americans to participate in social, political, and economic life and has cultivated invaluable partnerships across New York. Under the dynamic leadership of President and CEO Yolette Williams, LCSW-R, BCNF, HAA continues to expand its impact and inspire lasting change.
The anniversary celebration begins on Saturday, May 2, with the 5th Annual Building Bridges & Empowerment Summit at Nassau Community College in Garden City, NY, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  It will hold in collaboration with The Haitian Times under the theme “Bridging the Gap,” the summit will convene community leaders, professionals, and residents for a day of dialogue, networking, and empowerment.
The event shows HAA’s dedication to education and advocacy, encouraging critical conversation and real solutions for the Haitian diaspora and community.
The celebration will culminate on Sunday, May 3, with the 30th Anniversary Brunch Gala at Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square, NY, beginning at 1 p.m. The gala will honor distinguished individuals whose work has made a lasting impact, including Dr. Marie Lily Cerat, Dr. Evan Auguste, Guerline M. Jozef, and Dr. Girardin Jean-Louis.
The honoree’s achievements reflect the values the organization has championed for its 30 years of leadership, service, and community advancement. Several organizations will also be recognized for their contributions, including Haitian Medical Association Abroad, Tabou Combo Superstars, Haitian American Law Enforcement Fraternal Organization (HALEFO), Haitian Americans United for Progress, and Evangelical Christian Crusade Church, all of which work to uplift Haitian communities locally and internationally.
Beyond events and advocacy, HAA invests in the future through its scholarship program, offering financial support to students seeking higher education. This initiative reflects the belief that education is key to empowerment and success. Each year, HAA awards scholarships to high school students, easing college costs and promoting excellence and community involvement.
The program is central to HAA’s mission to develop future Haitian American leaders. At the Sunday Gala, scholarships will go to high school students starting college in Fall 2026.
“This is the first organization to establish a Haitian American scholarship,” said CEO Williams in an interview with Caribbean Life Newspaper.
