Guyanese-born filmmaker launches The A.M Creative Agency in Los Angeles

Filmmaker Mason Richards who is scouting Guyana’s Kaieteur Falls, the widest single-drop waterfall in the world among other locations to shoot the full-length feature of his award-winning film “The Seawall” told Caribbean Life recently that he is happy to announce that “I have rebranded and expanded my production company (Maurva Productions) where for the past 15 plus years I’ve been producing digital content with an incredible team of innovative filmmakers and creatives.”

The director, who in a previous interview had also identified the stunning town of Madhia, Guyana’s gold coast, with vistas of the Amazon and the country’s monumental sea wall built by Dutch settlers in the 1880s as being an idyllic backdrop for the film, has joined forces with a group of talented producers to move his production company forward.

“I’ve now joined forces with those talents — including Emmy-Award winning editor and filmmaker Angel Castellanos — to launch The A.M Creative Agency, with Vidal Woods as our C.O.O,” said Richards, founding partner and executive producer.

The Guyanese American award-winning filmmaker said, “collectively, over the past decade, we have collaborated with a range of brands and clients including Warner Media, The GRAMMYS, Univision, Apple Music, Davis Cup, and Starbucks.

Others are Home Depot, SLS Hotels, The Posse Foundation, Squash + Education Alliance, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Miami Pride, Canal Plus, MTV Networks, Digital Bodega, and several international beauty and fashion labels.

“Our goal is to continue to produce quality and inventive content for change, purpose, and inclusion,” he said of the Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, and London-based production company.

According to Mason, a recipient of the Guyana Golden Arrowhead Award of Distinction for Service, and the 2012 Sony Pictures Diversity Fellowship through Film Independent’s Project: Involve — a diversity initiative that identifies emerging filmmakers — production on “The Seawall” film will begin sometime soon.

The A.M. Creative Agency is a full-service production house creating projects from conceptualization, through development and production.

“We are a creative collective of diverse talent, whose range of expertise includes producing high quality narrative and commercial material with brands and clients interested in inclusive films and series for our culture,” said Richards, a public speaker, facilitator, and professor of film directing and screenwriting.

Richards has also curated several community outreach programs, film courses and workshops to communities often underrepresented in terms of race, gender, and ability in the Hollywood film industry.
