Grammy Award-Winning Tim and the Space Cadets arrives in Antigua

The US Embassy Bridgetown, Barbados said on Thursday that Grammy award-winning musician Tim Kubart and his band, Tim and the Space Cadets, have begun a three-day tour of Antigua and Barbuda.

“The group has performed worldwide and is excited to visit Antigua as the last stop on its Caribbean tour,” said the embassy in a statement, stating that it is hosting the award-winning musical group as part of its arts envoy program in partnership with the Antigua and Barbuda Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ministry of Creative Industries and Innovation.

“We had a great start yesterday, and with the help of the ministry, we were able to share our music with children at Villa and T.N. Kirnon Primary Schools,” said Kubart. “Antigua has really given us the best welcome, and we’re excited for our performances ahead.”

In 2016, Kubart won the Grammy for Best Children’s Album.

In partnership with the US Embassy, Tim and the Space Cadets had toured Barbados, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Dominica.

Tap dancer, choreographer and longtime “Space Cadet” Alex MacDonald said: “It’s always wonderful to break musical bread with people of different cultures and have our art influenced by the energy of the country we’re in and the people in the room.”

MacDonald is an alumnus of the US Fulbright exchange and an Adjunct Professor of Dance at Montclair State University.

“Antigua and Barbuda welcomes the sharing of cultures, art, and practices by creatives from different social-cultural backgrounds,” said Director of Culture Khan Cordice. “The introduction – for some – to tap dance here will open the minds of creatives to a different approach to dance and theatre.

“We look forward to more collaborative projects in the best interest of the development of our people and the shared experiences with our friends in the wider creative arts society,” he added.

Tim and the Space Cadets was expected to perform live at the UWI Open Campus in Antigua and Barbuda.
