Sherri Shepherd is heading back to daytime. The former cohost of “The View,” actress, comedienne and Emmy winner is launching her own talk show, which has officially been cleared for national syndication and will premiere on Sept. 12, Variety has learned. The new show , titled “Sherri,” has been cleared in more than 97 percent of the United States with Fox TV stations as its core station group. The daily show will also air on the Hearst, Sinclair and Nexstar stations among others. Sherri is an executive producer on her show, along with David Perler and her producing partner, Jawn Murray. Said Sherri, “September 12th can’t get here fast enough. Hosting my own talk show is a dream come true and I’m so excited to take viewers on this joyous journey.”
Dave Chappelle has refused to have his name attached to a new performing arts theater at his old high school following student backlash to his comedy special The Closer. According to a report in the Washington Post, the comedian announced his decision at the theater dedication ceremony June 20 at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, in Washington, D.C. The event had been delayed since November, when students said they didn’t want a space named after Chappelle due to the controversial Netflix special. At the ceremony, Dave told the audience he was “hurt” by the backlash. The venue will now be called the Theater for Artistic Freedom and Expression.

The 30th Anniversary Bounce Trumpet Awards took place on Juneteenth, June 19. The 2022 Bounce Trumpet Awards honored Courtney B. Vance, Stan Lathan, Zaila Avant – Garde, Georgia senators Raphael Warnock and John Ossoff and Princess Sarah Culberson. Musical performers included Mary Mary, Tank, PJ Morton, Avery Wilson and more.

On June 18, Urban One founder, Cathy Hughes, was inducted into The Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame (BMEWOF) during its Juneteenth celebration in Atlanta. Hughes is now an official member of the Crown Jewel of Excellence Black Music Month Class of 2022. The Walk of Fame is a joint initiative by the Black American Music Association (BAMAssoc) and Georgia Entertainment Caucus (GEC). In a short, lively acceptance speech, Hughes paid tribute to the founders of BMEWOF, fellow inductees and Atlanta.
