Field for CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship complete

The field for the 2023 CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 (CWU20) Championship is now complete following the results of CWU20 Qualifying, which was completed over the weekend.

CONCACAF said joining the top two ranked teams, United States and Mexico, at next month’s tournament in the Dominican Republic will be Canada, Panama, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Costa Rica.

All six of those teams finished in first place in their respective group during CWU20Q to secure their place in the Championship, CONCACAF said.

It said two-time CWU20 champions Canada (2004, 2008) will be making its 10th CWU20 appearance and will attempt to qualify for their ninth U20 Women’s World Cup.

CONCACAF said Panama is back in the Championship for a seventh time, “and will be aiming for a first ever U20 Women’s World Cup appearance, as are Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.”

Jamaica is in the CWU20 for the 12th time, while it will be the third appearance for Puerto Rico and the fourth for Dominican Republic, CONCACAF said.

It said Costa Rica will be playing in the Championship for a seventh time and is seeking its fourth participation in a U20 Women’s World Cup.

CONCACAF said the 2023 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship is scheduled to take place May 24 – Jun. 3, 2023, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The eight-team competition will qualify its top three finishers (finalists and third place match winner) to next year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, CONCACAF said.
