Eugene partners ‘Oath In The Park Before Dark’ on summonses

Brooklyn Council Member Dr. Mathieu Eugene, in partnership with The Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH), sponsored “OATH In The Park Before Dark,” on Thursday at the Prospect Park Parade Ground to provide information on how to respond to summonses and to protect against the spread of COVID-19.

“I want to thank The Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings for partnering with me on this very important event for the community,” said Dr. Eugene, the Haitian-born representative for the 40th Council District.

“We are still in the midst of a pandemic, so it is critical that we continue to provide our residents with resources in a safe setting that does not jeopardize the health of the community,” he added. “Many hardworking New Yorkers do not fully understand the violations they receive and may not be able to pay the fine, especially when they are out of work.

“I have heard from residents who have received a summons for being in the park past its closing time, but they were not aware that they had violated a city regulation,” Eugene continued. “That is why I have introduced legislation that will serve to better inform the community on park regulations and provide resources on how to go about receiving due process.”

“OATH In The Park Before Dark” is one in a series of events sponsored by Eugene in partnership with The Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings to provide resources for individuals who have been issued a summons.
