Coach Simmons disappointed in team’s performance

West Indies Head Coach, Phil Simmons has described his team’s performance as “under par” in all three recent matches of the One-Day International series against Bangladesh in which they were comprehensively beaten.

Simmons said the players needed to handle spin better, noting that West Indies bowling wasn’t that bad and “our batting has been poor throughout the series,” he said in a post-match interview.

West Indies suffered defeat in all three One-Day Internationals and crashed to a 120-run defeat in the final match in Chattogram last month.

Simmons said, “we need to play spin better. We need to be able to rotate strike and score boundaries in Bangladesh a lot better, so there is work to be done.”

The West Indies coach was also forced to admit that “every time you have low scores like, there is not enough character shown. There is not enough heart and determination.”

However, despite the negative results, Simmons was encouraged by the work of debutant left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein adding “he’s definitely a man of the future.”
