Carter, Thompson to represent TT at Doha Worlds Meet

Dylan Carter, a 10-time Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games medallist, and Cherelle Thompson will represent Trinidad and Tobago at the FINA World Aquatic Championship at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar, concluding on Feb. 18.

The swimming segment of the championship, which also includes five others in open water swimming, artistic swimming, diving, water polo, and high diving, started on Feb. 11 with Carter competing in both the men’s 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly events.

Thompson, competing at her third World Championship, will first compete in the women’s 50m butterfly heats, on Feb. 16 with the semifinals set for the same day and the final a day later.

Thompson will then conclude her campaign in the women’s 50m freestyle with the heats and semifinals of that event on Saturday, Feb. 17, and the final one day later.

At the December Invitational Swimming Championships last year, hosted by the Aquatics Sports Association of T&T (ASATT), Thompson booked her ticket to the World Swimming Championships when she went faster than the ‘B’ qualifying time of 25.92 seconds with her time of 25.71 in the 50m freestyle.

In Japan, Carter, a three-time World Short Course Championship medal winner which includes one silver and two bronze to, was tenth best in the 100m freestyle in the heats and 16th overall after the semifinals with times of 48.16 seconds, and 48.60, while in the 50m butterfly he qualified from the heats with the third best time of 22.89 but then had times of 23.05 for joint eighth in the semifinals, for a swim-off where he placed second best n 23.26 and failed to advance to the final.
