Brooklyn Democratic Party appoints Yamil Speight-Miller as executive director

In ushering in a new era of transformative leadership, the Brooklyn Democratic Party last Friday appointed Yamil Speight-Miller as the party’s new executive director.

Party Chair Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, the daughter of Haitian immigrants said, “We are honored to have Yamil Speight-Miller serve as executive director as I begin another term as party chair.

“Our executive director has proven himself to be an effective and unifying leader, both within his years of dedicated service in the party and in the public service sector,” added the representative for the 42nd Assembly District in Brooklyn.
“Together, with our newly-elected leadership and district leaders, we are ushering in a new era of extremely capable leadership that reflects and will uplift the wonderful diverse Democrats across Brooklyn,” she continued.

Bichotte Hermelyn said Speight-Miller has over 20 years of experience in public service, with vast experience in managerial roles, most recently through the New York State Department of Health amidst the pandemic, “serving New Yorkers through crucial leadership of the administration of +300,000 vaccines, tracing COVID-19 hotspots, and more.”

“It is my pleasure to serve as your executive director for the Brooklynites of the largest Democratic County Party in our nation,” said Speight-Miller, who had been serving in the role in an interim capacity, most recently spearheading the party’s successful Reconvened Organizational Meeting.

Speight-Miller, who now serves as second-in-command for Party Leadership, added: “In my role as executive director, I will echo the re-elected chair’s laser-focused vision to keep Brooklyn Blue during the pivotal midterm elections, uplift all Brooklynites, and engage members from all corners of our diverse borough to feel included, welcome and inspired to get involved so we are stronger and more capable than ever.

“I will equip the board, officers, and vice chairs with the tools to forge our road ahead, using an ‘open-door’ approach to be open to all viewpoints while contributing to the leadership structure of the organization to meet people where they are and not where we want them,” continued Speight Miller, who has served as the party’s eighth vice-chair.

“Our party shall educate Brooklynites on their guaranteed powers and purpose in society with integrity and commitment,” he said. “After suffering from COVID and other challenges, I vow to structure an even more efficient and organization that fires up our leaders’ demonstrated capabilities.

“We are one Brooklyn, we are one New York State, and we are one Democratic Party,” Speight-Miller emphasized. “I look forward to working with everyone to achieve our mission.”
