Romain Virgo set to perform at UBS Arena on Mother’s Day

When award-winning reggae crooner Romain Virgo romps onto the stage at the UBS Arena in Queens on Mother’s Day weekend, on May 9, the moment will be emotional as it is historic.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity first of all,” Virgo, who will debut at the arena concert, told Caribbean Life on Monday, May 4.

“I’m forever grateful, and I just can’t wait to get on stage and sing my heart out as usual,” he added.

The Jammins Event-produced Mother’s Day weekend concert places Virgo alongside reggae icon Beres Hammond, a figure Virgo holds in the highest regard.

“Every time I get the opportunity to share a stage with Mr. Beres Hammond, it’s a joy,” Virgo said.

More than just a collaborator, Virgo said Hammond represents a source of inspiration and guidance.

“My goal from day one is always to make the people who inspire me feel proud,” Virgo said. “Somebody like Mr. Beres Hammond, the work that he has put in over the years — words can’t even describe how powerful that level of work is.”

He said that Hammond’s influence goes beyond music.

“The love that he has shown me over the years, not just on stage, but in person, you can sit down and talk the entire night until daylight,” Virgo said. “That is special.”

Anthony “ER Guru” Turner, a Jamaican-born, New York-based entertainment publicist, said Virgo will also share the spotlight with R&B legend Stephanie Mills.

“It’s beautiful to get the opportunity to perform with legendary artists like Stephanie Mills,” Virgo said. “Her music has impacted us over the years.”

As he prepares for the milestone performance, Virgo said fans can expect nothing less than everything he has.

“When I get on stage, I will leave everything and perform like it’s my last time,” he said. “I can’t wait to see the people in New York. It’s going to be a beautiful show.”

Turner said: “For Virgo, the UBS Arena debut isn’t just another show—it’s a full-circle moment, standing shoulder to shoulder with the legends who helped shape the sound he now carries forward.”
