Keshorn Walcott triumphant in Finland

T&T’s Keshorn Walcott struck gold in the men’s javelin in Finland for the second time this month when he won at the Modonet GP Meet in Kourtane.

In his best throw for the year so far, the 2012 London Olympic champion threw the spear out to 84.89 metres.

Walcott fouled his first throw and then got out to 84.89m, but he also fouled his third throw.

His winning mark improved on his previous 2024 best of 81.93 he achieved at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland just a couple of days ago.

He opened his Finland campaign with a win in Kurikka on June 6 with 81.11m.

Walcott’s 84.89 was short of the 85.50m Paris Olympic Games qualifying standard. However, his victory was significant as he defeated 2019/2022 World Champion Anderson Peterson on 82.90m. Latvian Gatis Cakss on 81.61m was third.

The five-time Carifta champion was eleventh on the World Rankings in the men’s javelin before his triumph in Kourtane and is now eagerly awaiting to see how his 84.89m golden effort will improve his position on the list.

Walcott is expected to be back home for the National Gas Company (NGC) National Junior and Senior Track and Field Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, Trinidad from June 28-30.
