Zeta Phi Beta Sorority’s Delta Beta Zeta Chapter: 66 years of empowering Queens through service and advocacy

For over 66 years, the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Delta Beta Zeta Chapter has been a steadfast pillar of service and empowerment in the Queens community. With a rich history steeped in scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood, the chapter has remained dedicated to uplifting families and making a positive impact through a myriad of initiatives and programs.

Under the leadership of President Dr. Carol Grant, the Delta Beta Zeta Chapter continues to build on the legacy established by the chapter’s founders and past leaders. Dr. Grant expressed the chapter’s unwavering commitment to creating positive outcomes for vulnerable populations in Queens, emphasizing their vision for a stronger and more resilient community.

Speaking about the chapter’s impactful projects, Dr. Grant highlighted the significant difference they have made in the lives of hundreds of residents in the borough of Queens. Through initiatives aimed at addressing critical issues and providing essential support to families, the Delta Beta Zeta Chapter has become a beacon of hope and empowerment in the community.

From scholarship programs to community service projects, the chapter’s dedication to uplifting families and fostering positive change is evident in every aspect of its work. Dr. Grant emphasized the importance of collaboration and partnership in achieving their goals, noting the invaluable support received from community partners and stakeholders.

“We are known for being very active in our community. We offer scholarships to high school graduates, give book grants to students of York College…we do community baby shower to educate mothers on the services that are available to help them, we have an annual cancer awareness walk to honor survivors and raise awareness about this dreadful disease…we also help in Ghana by giving reusable sanitary supplies to women who don’t have access to this and other hyigene products. Our chapter also has a well in Ghana that we sponsor, so our work isnt just local we are trying to touch as much lives as possible.”

As the Delta Beta Zeta Chapter continues its mission of service and empowerment in Queens, Dr. Grant expressed her gratitude to all those who have supported and contributed to their efforts. With a shared vision of creating a brighter future for the community, the chapter remains steadfast in its commitment to serving as a catalyst for positive change in Queens and beyond.

The membership of the sorority consists of a diverse group of individuals dedicated to service and empowerment. Alongside the active sorority members, the chapter collaborates with the Zeta Male Network, a supportive group assisting with community services. Efforts are underway to further develop and strengthen this network, recognizing its vital role in advancing the chapter’s mission.

In addition to its community service efforts, the Delta Beta Zeta Chapter proudly supports and sponsors various auxiliary groups and youth affiliates, including the Amicae Auxiliary, Zeta Male Network, and Youth Affiliates – Archonettes, Amicettes, and Pearlettes. By empowering these groups, the chapter is nurturing future leaders and advocates within the community.

“My goal as chapter President is to continue to stand on the shoulders of our great founders and chapter presidents who came before me as a driving force in the Queens community to increase opportunities for vulnerable populations,” said Dr. Grant. “I firmly believe in taking care of your community one person at a time and thinking outside the box to create positive outcomes, and I encourage our chapter members to follow that vision.”

Founded on May 25, 1957, by 13 dynamic women, the Delta Beta Zeta Chapter has been committed to serving Queens County with passion and dedication. Under the leadership of its officers and members, the chapter has embarked on numerous projects aimed at fostering community engagement and addressing critical issues affecting vulnerable populations.

The chapter’s commitment to service is evident through its involvement in a wide range of programs, including voter registration drives, Storks Nest and Birth Equity Programs, domestic violence awareness initiatives, elder abuse awareness campaigns, and autism awareness programs. By collaborating with local charities and non-profit organizations such as March of Dimes, St. Jude’s, and the NAACP, the Delta Beta Zeta Chapter has made a significant impact on the lives of individuals and families in Queens.

The Delta Beta Zeta Chapter persists in its quest for service and empowerment in Queens, upholding its commitment to scholarship, service, sisterhood, and the elevation of womanhood.
