Zalika Samuels crowned Miss Youth Ambassador

Nineteen-year-old, Zalika Samuels, who was crowned Miss Linden Youth Ambassador 2022, on April 23, was a winner all the way, capturing the hearts of judges and adoring fans alike, as Linden Town Week celebrated 52nd Anniversary of township, and return to the stage after being halted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The aspiring teacher, from Amelia’s Ward, on the Linden Soesdyke Highway in the mining town, wore a stunning blue body-hugging iridescent gown, designed with a tree-layered bottom. The creation, completed with an asemantic neckline, with one sleeve, inspired by Guyana’s natural resources, eco-tourism, and the tranquil waters of the town’s Blue Lake.

The elegant beauty queen walked with poise and confidence as she approached emcees Laketa McPhoy and DJ San Hype, in the Q&A segment.

Samuels, Delegate #4, when asked, “what do you aspire to become?” eloquently responded: “Because of my love of education and the love that I have for children, I aspire to become a teacher, whereby I can teach the younger generation to become better in the future.”

The queen excelled in her dance performance, strut her stuff as a tennis player in the sportswear category, was fluent in poetry, and garnered loud applause in the public speaking on a community-related topic, before winning the Best Evening-wear prize.

The gown was designed by Quintin Pearson of House of Pearson. She was also presented with many other prizes for her outstanding performance.

Runner up prizes went to Delegate #3, Elisheba Wilson of the Wisroc community, and Delegate #1 17-year-old, Moneisha Trotman of Block 22 Wismar. Delegate # 5, 16-year-old Celina Lorrimer, of Wismar Housing Scheme, captured the hearts of the judges, with her charming smile to win in that category.

Twenty-year-old Makayla Ford of Industrial area made up the five delegates who competed for the coveted crown and received gifts.

Wanika Arrandel, mayor of Linden Town Council was on hand to present the beauty queens with bouquets of flowers.

Hilton Thompson, Judy Gravesande-Noel, Michael James, and Ms. Figuara, in turn, had the difficult task of judging the beautiful young ladies.

Linden Town Week, an annual calendar of events, that was closed due to COVID-19, opened with the pageant, which is a rebranding of the “Miss Linden Teen” organized by Mayfield Taylor and Trudy Scott.

Linden is the second largest city in Guyana after Georgetown, and capital of the Upper Demerara-Berbice region. located at 6°0′0″N 58°18′0″W, altitude 48 m (160 ft). It was declared a town in 1970, and includes the communities of Mackenzie, Christianburg, and Wismar.
