WI CAPTAIN RETIRES
West Indies T20 and One-Day International (ODI) Captain, Kieron Pollard has retired from international cricket.
Pollard, 34, announced his decision in an Instagram post last week.
He said: “After careful deliberation, I have today decided to retire from international cricket. I am proud to have represented the West Indies cricket for over 15 years in both the T20 and ODI forms of the game.”
Pollard’s tenure as West Indies captain lasted three years and much was expected of him.
He had assumed leadership of an ODI Team that had not won a series in five years.
Pollard enjoyed mixed results during his tenure as ODI captain.
However, he was heavily criticized after a disastrous Twenty20 World Cup campaign last year which saw the regional team win just one match and failed to make it out of the group stage.
The hard-hitting all-rounder last played for West Indies in February in the ODI and T20 series against India which the Caribbean side won.
Pollard, who has never played a Test match for West Indies, played a total of 123 ODIs in his international career, scoring 2, 076 runs and picking up 55 wickets.
In T20s, he compiled 1,568 runs in 101 matches at a strike rate of 135.14.
He is the third-highest run-scorer on T20 cricket, with 11,509 runs in 587 matches, most of which came in the T20 franchise.
He is in India representing Mumbai Indians in the ongoing 2022 Indian Premier League.
Pollard said he will continue playing for Mumbai and international franchises.
