West Indies sweep Proteas 3-0

West Indies frolicked to a series sweep in their three-match Twenty/20 series against South Africa when they got an incredible eight-wicket win in the third and final match at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

Proteas scored a modest 163 for 7, before West Indies raced to victory in the 14th over with 37 balls to spare.

Player of the Series Gudakesh Motie with 2 for 21, Obed Mc-Coy with three for 39 and Shamar Joseph with two for 26, all contributed in restricting South Africa’s batting. Man of the Match and Windies opening batsman Johnson Charles lit up the Sabina Park venue cracking nine fours and five sixes in the top score of 69 from just 26 balls.

Charles started the West Indies chase in a hurry and shared 92 for the first wicket with captain for this series, Brandon King who made 44 off 28 balls, that set the foundation for the successful run chase.

Charles was dismissed in the seventh over when he pulled a ball from young leg-spinner Nqaba Peter (one for 27) into the hands of Matthew Breetzke.

The momentum was maintained by King and new batsman Kyle Mayers with an unbeaten cameo of 36 from 23 balls.

After a 38-run stand between the pair, King was caught-behind by Quinton de Kock off Coetzee’s bowling in the 11th over.

Alick Athanaze (6) then joined in and Mayers smashed Coetzee for a six in the 13th over, before finishing the game as he smashed two more sixes in the subsequent over from Reeza Hendricks. The Caribbean side completed their chase with 55 balls remaining for their biggest win against the South Africans.

Earlier, the Proteas crawled to 63 for 4 at the halfway stage, before captain Rassie van der Dussen top scored with 51 from 31 balls and Wiaan Mulder with 36 from 28 balls added 77-runs for the fifth wicket.

McCoy got Mulder caught to break the partnership, and the South Africans could add only 36 from the remaining 22 balls.
