Visually impaired dancehall artist Nigy Boy graduates from Stony Brook University with a double major in Bachelor of Arts

Nigy Boy, a beacon of determination, is now celebrating the culmination of his hard work. The dancehall artist proudly graduated from Stony Brook University in New York, earning a bachelor’s degree in law, government, and political policy.

The “Continent” artist, whose real name is Nigel Hector, sparked inspiration as footage of his graduation went viral on social media. Fans admired and were amazed at his remarkable talent and resilience in overcoming his disability.

A video showed when Nigy Boy crossed the stage to collect his certificate, guided by his devoted mother, Claudette Hill. In an interview with Caribbean Life, Nigy Boy revealed that he pursued a double major and will receive two certificates, marking a week of celebration.

“At this moment, I am just extremely overjoyed that I was able to make it to the end of the finish line as far as my undergraduate studies are concerned,” he began.

Nigy Boy shot to international fame with his song “Continent,” initially a freestyle on Rich Immigrant’s head Rvssian’s revamped Dutty Money Riddim last year. His career took off almost immediately, and his charismatic personality has drawn in many fans.

Despite being blind, Nigy Boy has amassed an impressive following of 550k supporters on Instagram, who follow his music and enjoy snippets of his daily life, showcasing how he navigates his disability. Recently, he shared a video of himself being recognized as an intern at the New York State Assembly.

As for what’s next, Nigy Boy is relishing the moment. “I am extremely overjoyed that I put in the work and that the work that I put in these last four years has gotten me to this point in my life and academic career. I can’t wait for the next steps that will follow,” he said.

He plans to continue his education by pursuing a law degree.
