Owner Susan Almodovar shared heartfelt remarks during the ceremony, expressing gratitude to all who supported her journey. “This has been a dream, and I am so proud and happy to have every one of you here today,” Almodovar said. “My seniors are my life. They make me happy every day, and their love is something money can’t buy.”
She spoke emotionally about the personal bond she shares with her clients, highlighting the daily joy she receives from the hugs and affection of the seniors. “I feel blessed to have my seniors with me to celebrate this day,” she added, dedicating the opening to them. Almodovar also expressed her deep appreciation for her family, including her husband, children, right-hand General Manager Jenny Meerza, and her staff, who have been instrumental in the daycare’s success.
Community leaders also attended the event, including Tom Grech, president and CEO of the Queens Chamber of Commerce, who praised the new facility as a valuable addition to the community. “This is a wonderful milestone for the community,” Gretsch said. “We’ve worked hard to ensure everyone, especially our seniors, is properly represented and supported in Queens.”

Sherry Algredo, chairwoman of Community Board 9 Queens, also spoke at the event, sharing her admiration for the daycare’s unique approach to senior care. “To see these seniors having fun and enjoying their lives after years of hard work, it really touched me,” Agredo said. “Having a place where they can socialize, eat well, and celebrate is so important.”
Ebony Young, Deputy Borough President of Queens, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of honoring seniors. “Our seniors are the light,” Young said. “We must step over the darkness to continue their light for generations to come. This center is a testament to that.”
Senator Joseph Addabbo emphasized the importance of the daycare as a place of solace for seniors who may feel isolated, adding that it provides a heartwarming environment.
Unicare Adult Daycare offers more than care. It provides a welcoming environment where seniors can participate in activities such as bingo, Zumba, and birthday celebrations, focusing on love, entertainment, and meaningful interactions. Almodovar’s vision is clear — to create a space where seniors feel loved and valued, surrounded by a supportive community.
The opening of Unicare’s new location marks a bright future for senior care in South Richmond Hill, offering a place of peace, joy, and connection for local seniors.
