Trini athletes win 3 gold medals at CG in London

Trinidad and Tobago athletes won three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in London last week.
Cyclist Nicholas Paul won one gold and runner, Jeremy Richards, two gold medals.
Paul recorded T&T’s second Commonwealth Games gold medal in a historic Men’s keirin performance at the Lee Valley Velopark in Birmingham on Sunday.
And following on the heels of that success a week ago,he broke his 2018 Commonwealth Games record by picking up his best in a time of 19.80 at the same venue. Richards broke Namibia’s Frankie Frederick’s 200 meter Games record in a time of 19.97 set up in 1994.
Richards took gold in the 200 metre on Saturday before the men’s 4×100 relay team  won silver on Sunday.
A third gold medal for the T&T relay team makes it the first time since 1966 that the country has won three or more gold medals at the Commonwealth Games.
The 23-year-old, Nicholas Paul stood proudly at the top of the podium in earning his first major international gold medal by a TTO cyclist since the legendary Roger Gibbon won gold at the 1966 Kingston, Jamaica, edition of the games.
Paul’s devastating display of speed and power ended the event as a contest midway through the pentultimate of the six lap race.
Paul became the first T&T cyclist to win four medals at a single commonwealth games when he won silver in the men’s sprint sprint last Sunday and clinched the third medal at  the Lee Valley Velopark in London.
He is now the third runners of all time to successfully defend the title.
Richards won his second gold medal in two days at the Commonwealth Games as he anchored the T&T Men’s 4 x400 to gold in Birmingham. Try has won 3 gold medals, two silver, and a bronze at the2022 Commonwealth Games.
