Taste Bits of Jamaicaย returns to Brooklyn on Saturday

Get ready to embark on a vibrant journey to Jamaica without leaving the borough of Brooklyn.ย Taste Bits of Jamaica, the beloved cultural showcase of Jamaican flavors and traditions, is back for its 8th year on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, 3:00 โ€“ 10:00 p.m.

Hosted at the picturesque Rooftop of Brooklyn Commons, 495 Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn, this event promises to be โ€œan unforgettable celebration of Jamaican culture,โ€ according to Andrea Daley, the Jamaican-born publicist for the event.

Daley told Caribbean Lifeย that, for the past seven years,ย Taste Bits of Jamaicaย has delighted attendees with its โ€œunique, exquisite, intimately curated experience.

โ€œThis year, we invite you once again to savor the indelible flavors of the island that so many know and love,โ€ she said. โ€œFrom the world-famous jerk chicken to the scintillating and hypnotic rum punch,ย Taste Bits of Jamaicaย promises to tantalize your taste buds.

โ€œJamaicaโ€™s unique, vibrant flavors will be showcased in its foods, fruits, herbs and spices, reminding everyone why Jamaicans are considered โ€˜vibrant and spicy,โ€™โ€ Daley added.

Under the theme, โ€œPineapple Notes with hints of Lime and Ginger,โ€ she said this yearโ€™s event promises an array of new features and surprises.

โ€œWhether youโ€™re a long-time fan or experiencing our culture for the first time,ย Taste Bits of Jamaicaย aims to rejuvenate and inspire from a place of nostalgia,โ€ said Kim Morrison, owner of Unique Weddings and Tours, and the brainchild behind the event.

โ€œFor newcomers, itโ€™s a gentle nudge to consider Jamaica as your next travel destination โ€” the full island experience awaits,โ€ she added.

Daley said New York City, melting pot of cultures and people, โ€œoffers the perfect backdrop for this cultural extravaganza.โ€

She said the borough of Brooklyn, known for its accessibility and diversity, is โ€œan ideal setting for celebrating Jamaican heritage and flavors.

โ€œMuch like Uniqueโ€™s customer base, attendees ofย Taste Bits of Jamaicaย have a passion for travel, a curiosity for cultures, and a deep appreciation for the warmth that comes from embracing diversity,โ€ Daley said.

She said music will also take center stage at the event, paying homage to Jamaicaโ€™s rich musical heritage, adding that Mento, Ska, Reggae and Dancehall have long captured the hearts of people worldwide.

โ€œJamaicaโ€™s culture is steeped in its African ancestry and the experiences of its forefathers,โ€ she said. โ€œThe rich storytelling, through folk songs and memorable โ€˜sayingsโ€™, reflects a language that has been preserved through generations, and this legacy will be celebrated through the musical selections, the food and the mini-museum.

โ€œTaste Bits of Jamaicaย is a one-of-a-kind event, and we canโ€™t wait to share the magic of Jamaica with you,โ€ Daley added. โ€œLetโ€™s celebrate the vibrancy of Jamaican culture together.โ€
