Shane Warne death at 52 sends shockwaves

The cricketing world has been plunged into mourning over the death of Australian cricketer, Shane Warne, one of the finest spin bowlers of all time whose talent transcended the sport, died at the age of 52 from a heart attack recently.
Warne, who ended his spell-binding international career in 2007 with a remarkable 708 Test wickets, died from heart failure in Log Sami, Thailand while on a vacation with friends.

Among those paying tributes to the legendary spin bowler was Cricket West Indies (CWI), legendary batsmen, Brian Lara and Sir Vivian Richards.

CWI  said the leg-spinner was one of the greatest bowlers in history and was also a well-loved favorite with fans all over the world.

CWI President, Ricky Skerrit said,”it is with great sadness that CWI would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of Shane Warne at the shocking news of the passing of one of the finest bowlers of all time. He revived the art of leg spin and ws feared but respected by many batsmen around the world.

Skerrit said Warne was a friend to many West Indian cricketers.

Warne first played in the West Indies in 1990 as a member of the Australian Under-19 team which played against the West Indies Under-19s .

He would later return to the region on several occasions and had many famous on-field battles with legendary batsman Brian Lara.

Lara said he was left “speechless” after the death of his on-field rival and friend Shane Warne.
