Sashi Festival hopes to be ‘bigger and better’
Horatio Hamilton, promoter for the Sashi Festival, says the historic event that was last held in 2002 at the James Bond Beach in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, will be back in 2024.
Hamilton told on Tuesday that the event will be “bigger and better than before,” stating that the iconic festival, which captivated audiences in the past, is carded for Ocho Rios from May 23-26, 2024.
In 2002, Hamilton said Sashi featured superstars like Usher, P Diddy, Eve, Busta Rhymes, Donell Jones, Tyrese, Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Kim, Ginuwine, Wyclef Jean, Super Cat, Shabba Ranks, Bling Dawg, T.O.K and Dawn Penn.
Though an artist lineup is yet to be announced for 2024, Hamilton has, however, promised “a sizzling lineup that will include more than a dozen top R&B, Hip Hop, Afrobeat and reggae superstars.”
He is also promising other changes, including more focus on community development.
“Sashi’s is not just a comeback but a renaissance, placing a spotlight on community development, economic empowerment, and the flourishing creative industry that is at the heart of Jamaica’s cultural identity,” Hamilton said.
“We want to channel our energy and resources into building a future where young people have opportunities to thrive in the creative industry,” he added. “It’s about redirecting paths and providing alternatives to a life that might lead them astray.”
According to Bobby Clarke of Irie Jam Radio, “plans are in place to embark on an island-wide talent search in Jamaica to unearth hidden gems within the creative industry.”
