Minna LaFortune aims for GRAMMY Gold with ‘Caribbean Christmas’ and ‘Christmas is the Reason’
Following rave reviews for her Christmas album “Caribbean Christmas,”Jamaican reggae artiste Minna LaFortune has officially submitted her album and the single “Christmas is the Reason” for consideration at the 67th GRAMMY Awards.
Brooklyn resident LaFortune told Caribbean Life that the album has been entered in the Best Reggae Album category, while the single is vying for Best Global Music Performance.
“’Caribbean Christmas’ is a delightful journey into the heart of the festive season, expertly blending reggae, soca, calypso, ska, and waltz to create a harmonious celebration of the holidays,” said LaFortune, whose debut into the world of holiday music has been nothing short of spectacular, capturing the essence of Christmas with a nostalgic touch, family-centric themes, and an atmosphere of peace that resonates throughout the album.
LaFortune said the opening track, “It’s a Caribbean Christmas,” sets the tone with its spirited celebration of holiday customs.
“The rhythms infused in this track and throughout the album inspire not just festive decor but a genuine sense of merriment,” she said. “It’s a wonderful invitation for listeners to indulge in the joy and unity that the season brings.”
LaFortune, who was born in Kingston, the Jamaican capital, said while the “Caribbean Christmas” album was “a labor of love,” the songs “came straight from my heart, as if they were being stored, waiting for their release to inspire and rejuvenate the world at Christmas.”
She said the single, “Christmas is the Reason,” has an animated video on her YouTube Channel. The video was created by Shantel Bradford, and the album was produced by Lee Holness from The Art of Music Online Media Studio.
LaFortune said “Caribbean Christmas” is a testament to her artistic versatility and dedication to preserving and sharing the cultural richness of the Caribbean.
