Mayor Adams to attend Guyana’s 58th Independence Flag Raising Ceremony at Bowling Green

Mayor Eric Adams is expected to participate alongside Consul General of Guyana in New York Ambassador Michael E. Brotherson, and H.E. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, permanent representative of Guyana to the United Nations, to raise the Golden Arrowhead flag on Friday, May 24 in commemoration of the country’s 58th Anniversary of Independence.

The auspicious occasion that will commence at 11: a.m. at the historic Bowling Green square, Broadway & Whitehall streets, in lower Manhattan, will be celebrated with entertainment to honor the Republic’s achievement.

Guyana, which became an independent nation on May 26, 1966, will showcase the multicultural heritage, at several events throughout the borough, and the United States.

CG Brotherson told Caribbean Life that the commemoration will continue with a Prayer Worship Service on Sunday, May 26, Independence Day, at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, 331 Hawthorn St., Brooklyn.

The blessings, being hosted in collaboration with the Guyana Consulate and the Guyana Mission to the UN, will begin at 9 a.m. and will be officiated by several clergies.

Additionally, Mayor Ted R. Green in collaboration with Lady Ira Lewis, president of the Guyana American Heritage Foundation will continue the 58th Independence Anniversary festivities, with a flag-raising ceremony on June 14, at East Orange New Jersey City Hall, at 5 p.m.
