Inside Life: 60 For 60 will march to renew pledge MLK envisioned in a ‘dream’

Sixty organization and hundreds of thousands mobilized by Rev. Al Sharpton and his National Action Network will converge on the nation’s capital of Washington D.C. later this week for what he promises will be a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to retain “hard-fought Civil Rights’ under renewed threat.’

The diverse coalition represents various racial and religious backgrounds who will make their presence felt on Aug. 26 when students, church groups, families, activists, elected officials, labor and national organizations join forces to expose alleged discrepancies in government

Slated to coincide with the anniversary of the 1963 historic march in Washington D.C. the event marks a collaboration between Sharpton and Martin Luther King III, to coalesce like-minded individuals and the collaborating organizations to amplify the needs of disfranchised Americans who the martyred leader referenced in a now historic and poetic “I Have A Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial.

Thousands are expected to gather at the same spot Dr. Martin Luther King Jr addressed multitudes who left from numerous locations throughout the nation 60 years ago on a mission to march and rally for equal rights and justice in underserved communities.

“It’s not a commemoration – it’s a continuation, We’re still fighting many of the same fights from six decades ago — Civil Rights, police violence, voting rights” and a long list of inequities the activist preacher and Nobel Peace Prize winner envisioned for a great America.

According to Sharpton, many of those hoped-for aspirations have been eroding but blatantly exposed on January 6, 2021 when rabble-rousers stormed the Capitol Building in protest of alleged “unfair election” returns following the 2020 presidential campaign.

“Our march will demonstrate a unified front against the vitriol, rise in hate crimes, regressive laws and threats to democracy itself that are permeating society,” Sharpton said on his weekly Politics Nation talk show aired on MSNBC

The documented “Loudmouth” said he will revisit the seat of government as often as he is able in order to expose the hypocrisies still plaguing America.

Of the anniversary march, a primary concern of the two prominent activists, center around passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, a major bill pending in the Senate.

Last year a definitive documentary billed “Loudmouth” favorably portrayed the self-appointed public advocate/activist/founder of the National Action Network as an amplified mouthpiece the title promoted.

Sharpton embraced the description and like former Cong. John Lewis who tirelessly marched with Dr. MLK and continued his loyalty to the Civil Rights cause until his untimely death in 2020, proudly boasted his propensity for making “good trouble.”

“We’ve made progress – but we still have a long way to go.”

President Joe Biden endorsed the march earlier this year when Sharpton first announced his plans during the MLK Day breakfast gathering in Washington D.C.

He allegedly said then: “There’s nothing beyond our capacity – nothing, nothing, nothing – if we do it together.”
