IMPACT AWARD
Jamaican American (Jamerican) actor Nick Creegan, who has a major recurring role on “Law and Order: Organized Crime” on Tuesday received the 2022 Blue & Bougie Impact Award.
According to Jamaican Anthony Turner, Blue & Bougie executive, Creegan was presented with the award by Bronx Councilman, Kevin Riley at a press brunch at Coffee Bay Restaurant in the Bronx.
Turner said this was Creegan’s first major award since becoming a full-time actor in 2018.
He said Creegan was also presented with a “Certificate of Appreciation” by Mt. Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard.
“I do what I do for my community; and to know that my people recognize me is really, really nice,” Creegan told Caribbean Life after the ceremony. “It feels amazing.”
Turner said Creegan, whose mother is from Jack’s River in in the Parish of St. Mary in Jamaica, was hired by TV mogul Oprah Winfrey soon after her team saw a video sketch Creegan created in a Jamaican accent about oxtail gravy that went viral.
Creegan currently has a major recurring character on “Law and Order: Organized Crime” and is the first actor of color to portray the iconic villain “The Joker” in Batwoman.
“It was an honor to join Blue & Bougie executives and the owners of Coffee Bay Restaurant, to honor Nick Creegan on all his accomplishments,” Riley told Caribbean Life. “Representation matters, and it was a pleasure to help celebrate another individual of Jamaican descent who still finds time to give back to his community.”
Jamaican actor Zbek Nelson, who attended the ceremony, said, “I really enjoyed the event.
“The moment was very concise and precise, and I’m pleased that the actor (Creegan) was pleased with the token of appreciation for his contribution to the arts,” Nelson said.
“Blue & Bougie executive Jerry McDonald, as usual, did an amazing job, always giving back to his community and acknowledging greatness,” he added.
Turner said Creegan joined the list of previous Blue & Bougie Impact Awardees, including Safaree (Lloyd Samuels): Love & Hip Hop, NY TV; DJ Bounty Killa; singer Nadine Sutherland; Grammy-nominated music producer and music executive Cristy Barber; and radio broadcaster Kurt Riley.
