High school student shares his love of music

Zechariah Waldron-Carrington (pronounced like Zachariah) is a senior at St. Francis Preparatory School (SFP) in Brooklyn. His dad is from Guyana, and his mom is from Trinidad and Tobago.

His grandmother was the first person in his family to travel to the U.S. from Trinidad & Tobago, specifically Boston, MA. According to him, she came because his great-grandmother wanted her to have better opportunities.

People may be surprised that Waldron-Carrington loves art, specifically painting, drawing with colored pencils, and creating digital art on his iPad, which he sometimes shares on his social media platforms.

Waldron-Carrington lives in Rosedale, Queens. He likes the neighborhood because it is close to the Green Acres Mall, the Rosedale train station for the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), and his local church.

He sees his grandmother and his mom as the most significant influences on his life because “they inspire me to work hard to pursue my dreams.”

The student is involved in the concert and jazz bands, where he plays the saxophone at the school.

He started participating in school bands in fourth grade and has continued to be involved ever since.

Waldron-Carrington says the reaction from those who attended the concert and jazz bands’ performances was terrific. “People really enjoy our performances and always tell us that we do a great job,” he continued.

He says he plans to continue doing so once he graduates, even if there are few opportunities to do so outside of school.
Playing video games with friends, swimming, and enjoying the company of others make his heart happy.

What’s next for Waldron-Carrington is preparing to attend college, where he plans to study aviation, in which he will learn how to fly planes. His goal in researching this is to become a pilot for a major airline, such as JetBlue, Delta, and American Airlines.
